Bahrain Military Complex |
This project required product for officers and dormitory quarters that was adaptable on a moment's notice due to the sudden increase in personnel that was anticipated and, in fact, has occurred. Two-man suites were designed to convert to a four person room while maintaining maximum storage and adequate living space. University Lofts' unique bed post system allowing for unlimited changes to bed height and under bed storage was key to the flexibility required. Solid wood construction guaranteed stability within a harsh climate and a changing environment. Knoll's Morrison system provided complete workstation needs and ease of reconfiguration while adapting to British power standards specified for this overseas complex. The executive offices were outfitted with Knoll's Magnusson desk line again allowing for a modular approach to wood veneer casegoods which was important within the scope of the design but also logistically, as product was containerized and shipped to Bahrain from the Navy's Gulfport, Mississippi, transportation center.

Internal Revenue Service |
By specifying Knoll's Morrison system the IRS Service Center in Andover, Massachusetts, could address varying needs within its facility and keep the product line and finishes consistent with the ability to adapt to changes in a short amount of time. The workforce at the IRS Center was constantly changing depending upon personnel hires during the tax season, and facilities managers looked for a product line that could be used for managers, supervisors, support staff and temporary personnel. They also needed a system that would allow for the integration of specialty product required due to the constant 24 hour, multi-use of each work area especially during the busy time of the year. Mayline offered a product line that integrated with the Knoll workstations and allowed for sit-to-stand requirements, ergonomic issues, ease of adjustability and comfort to be addressed within a single desking solution. The variable height, electrically adjusted, split level corner unit fit perfectly within the confines of the Morrison station and did so in a cost-effective, efficient manner. While working with this particular IRS Service Center, Fens Associates began to develop a unique product that the agency had been looking to replace for quite some time. Labeled tingle tables by the IRS the units provided an optimum sorting station that was an important part of the daily workload. The existing tables were old and out-dated, some of them having been hand-crafted by IRS facilities personnel over (20) years ago. Working with several manufacturers over a two year period Fens Associates developed the updated specifications for the new tingle table. Goelst, a manufacturer of casework with an excellence for custom work, was brought in by Fens Associates, llc, to work with IRS facilities. After numerous prototypes were designed and tested, a unit was manufactured that offered the necessary options and quickly became the standard. Fens has recently been successful in developing projects for this product at IRS facilities throughout the United Stated including Andover, MA, Philadelphia, PA, Fresno, CA, Salt Lake City, UT, Cincinnati, OH and other locations.

Center for Disease Control |
When CDC in Atlanta wanted to outfit a new building their requirements for the executive offices were straight-forward yet not easily met. Besides modular flexibility in order to offer users various options they were looking for casegoods that had the appearance of professionalism yet could withstand intense use, adapt to building changes and offer flexibility in size and style. Fens Associates, llc, in partnership with Knoll, Inc. presented the eventual solution with the Reff line. Components offered were of various size and could attach to worksurfaces or be wall-mounted. Storage options were unlimited from pedestals to lateral files, bookcases and wardrobes. Surfaces were available in different thicknesses, edge detail and contour. Finish and style options allowed the CDC design staff to create an environment that reflected the level of employees that would eventually occupy the space. Combined with Knoll seating options, a superior degree of flexibility and refinement created an elegant and functional space.

Pope Air Force Base |
The 41st Airlift Squadron at Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina was looking for workstations that would solve the dilemma many departments face: user access and data/telephone cabling. With an intense environment that required communication between workstations and immediate access to equipment and the wiring that supported such. Fens Associates was well aware that the only product line capable of responding to this challenge was Knollís Currents system. Currents consisted of a unique service wall that permitted maximum flexibility towards the goal of having immediate access to data and phone lines and electrical power. By combining the service wall with Currents freestanding workstations the solution was complete. Users had constant access to adjoining stations where needed and within a military minute equipment, cabling and entire workstations could be enhanced, moved, revised or reconfigured. Fens Associates sales representatives and support staff guided the base to create a proper environment with the Currents system that continues to serve its needs.
